Cat5e vs Cat6 Ethernet cables

How do i figure out if i need a Cat5e or a cat6 network cable? Is there a big difference between cat5e and cat6?

Both Cat 5e and Cat 6 can allow gigabit speed between gigabit capable devices. Cat 6 is just has tighter specs and will perform better under adverse conditions or as distances approach limits. If you just buy pre-made patch cables, you won't notice much difference. If you buy raw stock make your own, you'll find Cat 6 a little more tricky to work with.

Typically to use CAT6 you would want to run Gigabit hardware, nic card(s) in system(s) from Gigabit router, switch, etc.
